Day 1 08 August Cape Town D
Welcome to Africa! On arrival you will be met off your flight and escorted to your waiting coach. You will have your first glimpses of South Africa as you drive from the airport to your hotel, the Mount Nelson, an icon in the city with views over Table Mountain and splendid gardens. Dinner this evening is served in the resplendent Colony restaurant.

Day 2 09 August Cape Town B
Set off this morning for a full day discovery of Cape Town. Your expert guide will bring to life this beautiful city and also share with you all aspects of it, including the historic city centre and urban rejuvenation taking place here, the Company Gardens and Houses of Parliament and the Castle, South Africa’s oldest building. We also visit the Malay Quarter with its brightly coloured houses and cobbled streets, before we continue to Table Mountain, where we ascend the cableway and admire incredible views over the city and Table Bay.

Time for lunch (own account), before we board the ferry for Robben Island. Here we will be joined by a local guide – someone who spent time on the island during the Apartheid years – and thus able to give a personal and often moving account of time spent there. You will also learn something about the island’s most famous prisoner – Nelson Mandela – and see his cell where he spent nearly 27 years of his life. We return to the Waterfront, where you will have some time at leisure to browse this vibrant working harbour, with dinner at leisure.

Day 3 10 August Cape Town BLD
Today an exploration of the Cape Peninsula and the Cape of Good Hope awaits us. We set off along the Platinum Mile, following the Atlantic Ocean and passing the beach suburbs of Bantry Bay, Camp’s Bay and Llandudno, before reaching the small fishing harbour of Hout Bay. Here we join a short cruise out to Seal Island where the Cape Fur Seal is found – it also offers excellent views of the rugged coastline which characterizes the Cape.

Our journey continues along Chapman’s Peak, rated one of the top scenic drives in the world and on to the Cape Peninsula. We make a stop overlooking False Bay where champagne and oysters are waiting for us to make the view even more enjoyable, before ascending the Peninsula via funicular. It is here at the Cape of Good Hope that the Indian and Atlantic Oceans symbolically meet and the view from the top of the Peninsula is awe inspiring.

Lunch is served at the Black Marlin before we return to Cape Town via the African Penguin breeding colony at Boulders Beach and the renowned Kirstenbosch Gardens.

Dinner awaits this evening at Savoy Cabbage in one of South Africa’s oldest heritage buildings, and renowned for its fine cuisine with a South African twist.

Day 4 11 August Cape Town BL
We set off this morning for the beautiful Winelands, stopping first at Paarl, where we visit the impressive Afrikaans Language Monument, which gives wonderful views over the Winelands as well as over the Helderberg mountains. We stop at Laborie wine estate on the way out for our first wine tasting at one of the most picturesque farms. From here we continue to Franschhoek, founded by the French Huguenots in the 17th century and a little town that has a unique charm. You will have time to explore the town at your own pace, before stopping at one of the nearby wine estates for lunch. We finish our day by visiting Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa, with its oak lined streets and Cape Dutch architecture, before returning to our hotel for overnight. Dinner is included this evening at Manolos in vibrant Kloof Steet.

Days 6 & 7 13 And 14 August Madikwe BLD
Your next two days are at leisure at Madikwe. The reserve is famous not only for its Kalahari lions, but also for the packs of African Wild Dog, a highly endangered species. Sightings of leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo are also common. Your days at the lodge follow the normal safari routing of an early morning game drive (sunrise is the best time to spot game) with coffee served en route, a return to camp for breakfast, time to relax and enjoy the pool and suite, before joining your afternoon game drive. These often continue into the night, were game sightings by powerful spotlight add an exciting dimension. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included and served at the lodge. You may also choose to join a bush walk with your ranger as an alternative to game drives.
