Upon arrival at George airport, you are met by a representative of Maxim Tours and transferred to your hotel. Lush rain forests, glorious beaches, jagged cliffs and a prolific wild floral kingdom create a Garden of Eden uncommon in Africa. Pods of whales migrate annually up its coastline where the quiet protected bays are an ideal nursery for their young calves. Today you will enjoy a full day private tour of the Garden Route's most beautiful areas including Tsitsikamma National Park. The Tsitsikamma's spectacular scenery includes the Indian Ocean breakers, pounding rocky shores beneath 180 m high cliffs, ever-green forests and fynbos (Cape Floral Kingdom), rolling down to the sea in a lush carpet where ancient rivers have carved their path to the ocean through rocky ravines. The Tsitsikamma National Park incorporates various cultural heritage sites ranging from Khoisan cultural heritage sites such as caves and rock art to more recent cultural historic sites such as the ruins of small fisher settlements, remnants of the past forestry industries and grave sites.

Today you are transferred to George airport for your scheduled flight to Cape Town. You are met by your private driver who will transfer you to your hotel. The balance of the day is yours to spend to explore this beautiful and exciting ocean side city.

Day 4 Cape Town
Today we embark on a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. We take in the beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay, before crossing over to Hout Bay, where you may choose to join an optional boat cruise to Seal Island. From here we drive to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve via Chapman's Peak, one of the world's most breathtaking coastal drives, where you will board a funicular to the top of the Peninsula to witness the symbolic meeting of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans as well as have spectacular views over False Bay. We enjoy lunch near here before continuing to Simonstown, the naval base, and visiting the African Penguin breeding colony at Boulders Beach. En route back we stop at the world renowned Kirstenbosch Gardens before arriving at your hotel.

Day 5 Cape Town
You will be met this morning by your guide and will set off for the Winelands, a delightful drive which winds its way through superb mountain ranges, vineyards and Cape Dutch homesteads. We stop first in Paarl with its mountain setting for a cellar tour and wine tasting, before continuing to the town of Franschhoek. Founded by French Huguenots over 350 years ago, it is widely regarded as the culinary capital of South Africa, and its beautiful setting and café lined streets will charm you. A further wine tasting is included at one of the renowned estates here. Onward to Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa, with canal lined avenues, and magnificent examples of Cape Dutch architecture where we enjoy our final wine tasting of the day, before drop off at your hotel in Cape Town late this afternoon.

Day 6 Cape Town / Blue Train
This morning you are transferred to Cape Town station to board the Blue Train for your overnight journey to Pretoria. The train leaves Cape Town just before noon and arrives in Pretoria in time for high tea the following day. The finest Cape wines are complemented by gourmet cuisine while you travel through some of the most scenic parts of the country. Time allowing there will be a stop made in historic Matjiesfontein en-route. Some of the best scenery can be enjoyed in the first couple of hours as the train winds its way through the Cape wine region before entering the Great Karoo.

This morning after breakfast we head south for Soweto, heart of the struggle against apartheid. There is much history here, including the houses where Nelson Mandela and Bishop Desmond Tutu lived, as well as the monument to the Soweto uprisings of 1976. But there are also very warm and friendly people, who we will meet during a lunch stop at one of the local shebeens (pubs). From here, we head east, traveling via Nelspruit, before stopping for overnight in one of the towns near the escarpment.

Day 3 (Tuesday) Kruger National Park
We set off this morning to discover the scenic splendor of this region. First stop is the little Victorian gold mining town of Pilgrim's Rest, before we join the Panorama Route, taking in Bourke's Luck Potholes, the impressive Lisbon Falls, and the highlight - Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world. Dinner and overnight on the edge of the Kruger National Park.

The day starts early as you join your ranger in an open vehicle for your full day safari into the Kruger National Park, to spot the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo) and other game. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 (Thursday) Swaziland/Zululand
Depart after an early breakfast and enter the independent kingdom of Swaziland, well-known for its excellent markets with craft and curios from all over Africa. You will have the opportunity to stop at one of these markets en route, before entering northern Zululand. Here we will check into our lodge for dinner and overnight.

This morning you will embark on a boat cruise on one of Zululand's most scenic lakes, giving you the opportunity to spot hippos, crocodiles and fish eagles. Return to your lodge early this afternoon, with an optional activity available to you - either a game drive in open vehicle, or a walking safari, both accompanied by an expert ranger. This area is rich in elephant and rhinoceros as well as being one of the most pristine areas in South Africa. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 (Saturday) Durban/Cape Town
We follow the sugar cane fields of KwaZulu Natal south after breakfast, arriving in Durban late this morning. We visit the impressive new uShaka Marine World, one of the largest marine worlds in the Southern Hemisphere - particularly renowned for the large shark tank! We then transfer to Durban International for your onward flight to Cape Town. On arrival in Cape Town, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 8 (Sunday) Cape Winelands
Your guide will collect you this morning at 9:00am and you will set off for Stellenbosch, the second oldest settlement in South Africa after Cape Town. Its oak lined streets and famed Cape Dutch architecture make it one of the most charming towns in the country. We continue from here to Paarl, where we stop at the impressive Afrikaans Language Monument that offers awe inspiring views of the Winelands and the Hottentots Holland Mountains, before enjoying lunch and a wine tasting at one of the nearby wine estates. We continue to Franschhoek, where we enjoy another wine tasting, before checking in to our hotel, giving you an opportunity to explore this French Huguenot town with its charming pavement cafes on your own.

Day 9 (Monday) Oudtshoorn
We join Route 62 today - an inland road that travels through the stark beauty of the Little Karoo, a semi desert region, passing towns such as Barrydale and Montagu. We stop at the little village of Calitzdorp, famous for its Haanepoort grapes for a port tasting, before arriving at Oudtshoorn, the ostrich farming capital of the world. We have lunch and a tour of an ostrich farm before visiting the Cango Caves, the largest accessible caverns in Africa.

Day 10 (Tuesday) Knysna
This morning we travel over the Outeniqua mountains, to George, where you board a steam train to travel the coastal route in nostalgic fashion (seasonal September - April), before joining up with your guide at Sedgefield. Travel on to Knysna where we join the ferry for Featherbed Nature Reserve, where we are taken to the top of the cliffs for breathtaking views of the area. Lunch on the lagoon before we return to Knysna for check-in at the hotel.

Day 11 (Wednesday) Knysna
Today we drive east after breakfast to the thick indigenous Forest of Tsitsikamma, where we head towards the coast at Storm's River Mouth. Here the Storm's River meets the Indian Ocean amidst dramatic cliffs. Our tour continues with a stop at a monkey sanctuary in a protected area of the forest, before we drive to the holiday village of Plettenberg Bay, and famed Lookout Beach. We return to Knysna, with time at leisure this afternoon to enjoy the artistic shops and crafts of the town. Enjoy dinner before retiring for the evening.

Day 12 (Thursday) Cape Town
After breakfast, we head west via the historic town of Swellendam, with its 18th century architecture, to the coastal town of Hermanus, world famous for its excellent land based whale watching. Whales are in the bay between May and November, but even out of whale season, the location and views makes this a special place to visit. We enjoy lunch here at the Relais and Chateaux hotel, the Marine, a beacon of elegance on the coast. This afternoon, we continue to Cape Town via Sir Lowry's Pass. The next three nights are in Cape Town.

Day 13 (Friday) Cape Town
This morning you will discover Cape Town. Rich in history - you will visit the Castle, and the historic city center, as well as the Houses of Parliament and Company Gardens. We will also stop at the colorful Malay Quarter and bustling market at Greenmarket Square. Weather permitting, we will ascend Table Mountain (own cost) for spectacular views over the entire Cape Peninsula. At the end of the tour, you may choose to be dropped off at your accommodation or at the vibrant Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, a working harbor, with many shops, restaurants and outdoor performers. The rest of the day is yours at leisure to explore the city at your own pace.

Day 14 (Saturday) Cape Town
Set off on this morning after breakfast for the Cape of Good Hope - a drive that takes you along the incredible Atlantic seaboard, through exclusive areas such as Clifton and Camp's Bay, and the little fishing harbor of Hout Bay, where we will stop for a cruise to Seal Island to see the Cape Fur Seals. We continue to Cape Point where we ascend by funicular to the top to witness the symbolic meeting of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. We return via Simon's Town and the breeding Colony of African Penguins on the beach there. Dinner this evening is a special arrangement in the township of Langa, where will enjoy traditional African food, and the most talented young African musicians.

This morning you are transferred to Cape Town airport for your flight to Maun, Botswana. Here you are met by your pilot for your charter flight to Mombo Camp, situated in the Moremi Game Reserve. The camp has nine luxuriously furnished tents, raised off the ground. The guests' rooms and connecting walkways are up to two meters off the ground, allowing game to wander freely through the camp while at the same time allowing for guest safety. One often finds that animals take refuge under the rooms.

After a morning game drive and breakfast, you are transferred to the airstrip for your charter flight to Kings Pool Camp, located in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. This private reserve in the Linyanti / Savuti Channel area in the northern part of Botswana borders the western boundary of Chobe National Park. Accommodation is probably the most luxurious in all of Botswana. There are nine twin-bedded tented rooms under cool thatch, overlooking the hippo filled lagoon in front of the camp. Each of the new suites has its own large bedroom area, lounge, private plunge pool and a sala. Each en-suite bathroom has two showers, two hand basins and a separate flush toilet. There is an outdoor shower for those who prefer to shower under the stars. Settle in to your camp before embarking on an afternoon game drive.

Late this morning, after a short activity and breakfast, you are transferred to the airstrip, where you will board your charter plane to Kasane airport. Upon landing you are met by our representative who will assist you through customs. You are then transferred by road & boat to Livingstone. Your stay is at The Royal Livingstone hotel, an elegant colonial-style hotel, located within walking distance of Victoria Falls. You will have an opportunity to relax before heading out on a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River this evening. Your route takes you upstream of the Zambezi, with Zambia on one side and Zimbabwe on the other as the sun sinks slowly over the African horizon. Drinks and snacks are included on your cruise and you will have the opportunity of spotting elephant on the banks of the river and on the many islands in the broad river, as well as crocodiles and hippo.

After a morning game drive and breakfast, you are transferred to the airstrip for your charter flight to Lebala Camp, located in the Linyanti region. Each of the eight spacious tents are built a raised teak deck, with a reading and writing area, en-suite bathrooms with Victorian clawfoot bathtubs, "his and hers" washbasins and flush toilets. The bathrooms lead out to a reed enclosed open-air shower with hot and cold running water. The endless vistas from the large windows and decks across the vast plains, make Lebala one of the finest wilderness camps in Africa.

Day 8 Linyanti
The Linyanti area is famed for its large herds of elephants and numerous predators, which is sure to provide some phenomenal game viewing opportunities. Activities include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, night drives, and occasional guided walks.

Days 9 Linyanti/Victoria Falls, Zambia
Late this morning, after a short activity and breakfast, you are transferred to the airstrip, where you will board your charter plane to Kasane airport. Upon landing you are met by our representative who will assist you through customs. You are then transferred by road & boat to Livingstone. Your stay is at Songwe Village, a stunning property perched 400 feet above the Zambezi Gorge, just a short drive from the Falls. Here you’ll stay in spacious, comfortable thatched huts, built in the traditional style. Each one of the eight huts has a flushing toilet and en suite shower with a commanding view of the gorge below. You will have an opportunity to relax before heading out on a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River this evening. You will have the opportunity of spotting elephant on the banks of the river and on the many islands in the broad river, as well as crocodiles and hippo.

Day 10 Victoria Falls
The Songwe experience can be anything you want it to be. You might simply choose to take a walk along the gorge and take in the incredible scenes, or pack a picnic lunch and watch the world go idly by from the banks of the Upper Zambezi. As well as offering the optional big adventure experiences, from white water rafting to bungee jumping or even a microlight flight over the Falls, Songwe features visits to local villages, dugout canoe rides, nature walks, and guided trips to Victoria Falls.

This afternoon, you are transferred to Livingstone airport for your flight to Johannesburg. Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you are met and transferred to your hotel, The Grace. The hotel is located in Rosebank, a fashionable and leafy suburb of shopping malls, restaurants, sushi bars and coffee shops. The Grace is a 75-bedroom privately owned five-star hotel and is also a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. The evening is yours to spend at leisure.

After an early breakfast, you are transferred to Johannesburg airport for your charter flight to Lion Sands Private Reserve. Lion Sands is situated in the southern portion of the Sabi Sand Reserve, well known for better game viewing and a far smaller concentration of lodges. It also has exclusive access to the Sabie River, offering an incomparable safari experience. Following afternoon tea, set out again for a walking safari or game drive and then indulge in a sunset cocktail.

Day 5 Kruger National Park
Today enjoy a truly unique safari experience! Leave Plains Camp in the late afternoon and arrive at the “Sleep Out”, an elevated wooden platform, carrying a lightweight rucksack containing a change of clothes, a pillowcase, a sheet inner for the sleeping bag and refreshments. After hanging up mosquito nets, fly sheets and preparing beds, sundowners can be enjoyed on the platforms that also overlook a waterhole. While dinner is being on an open fire, enjoy sounds and senses, heightened as you share the wilderness at night, while being safely guarded by observant guides. The rumble of the elephant passing by or the roar of the lion at the nearby waterhole, are the only noises that might disturb guests in this peaceful wilderness

This morning, you fly to Hoedspruit airport, where you are met by a representative of Camp Jabulani. Camp Jabulani is a sublime experience. The camp is built along the bank of a seasonal stream in the protective shade of impressive leadwood trees. An open air spa promises the finest products in the midst of nature in its’ purest form. Each of the six luxury suites is remote and private. Pure cotton sheets, massive bath-tubs, an outdoor glass-enclosed shower, a fire-place with a separate lounge area, and a private plunge pool complement each of the rooms. Suites are also equipped with a mini-bar, safe, hairdryer and electric blanket. Comfort is ensured by the 24 hour temperature control and overhead ceiling fan. A dedicated butler completes the experience by personally responding to the needs of the guest. During the day the “walls” of the suites are rolled away to bring the bush just that bit closer. Guests are also able to join experienced rangers in open safari vehicles as they head out in search of The Big 5, and the smaller creatures that are part of an African safari. If that isn’t enough, guests are invited to visit the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, where visitors are able to witness feeding sessions of various rare African vultures, to touch cheetahs and to witness the projects undertaken by the centre’s veterinary staff who operate an animal hospital where injured or abandoned animals are cared for and eventually released back into the wild.
