 Explore the temples and ruins of magnificent Tikal National Park, where curious animals, such as the cotomundi, compete for your attention. A guided tour of the ruins is included, as well as a full day tour of Yaxha, newly discovered ruins, and site of the popular TV series "Survivor".
 In the Cayo District you can discover secret waterfalls, paddle a canoe through a jungle river or hike up a Mayan ruin for a fantastic view. Your mountain jungle lodge is well located for all these excursions.
 Enroute to Belize City you will visit one of the most unusual and entertaining zoos in the world. The Belize Zoo allows you to get up close and personal with the local animals such as the howler monkey and the jaguar.
Day 1 Tikal
Today you fly from the U.S.A. to Guatemala City where you will connect for a short flight to Flores, gateway to Tikal National Park. You will be met at the airport and taken to your jungle lodge. Stay at Nitun Lodge, a rustic jungle lodge with guest houses built in rock, sand, wood and thatched with palm leaves. Most of Ni'tun's walls are built in the antique Colojché style. Some of the walls were left without the plaster so the beautiful art of wood and sticks that lies beneath can be fully appreciated. All of the houses have private bathroom with spacious hot and cold water showers. The heart of Ni'tun is certainly in the kitchen where they love to cook and prepare daily dishes... most of the recipes are their own and ingredients are fresh.

Day 2 Tikal
This morning you have a guided tour of Tikal National Park, the "New York City" of Mundo Maya (the Mayan World). The tour includes transfers, lunch, and entrance fees. Tikal has been a national park for more than 20 years. In addition to magnificent ruins, there's abundant wildlife such as peccaries, oscillated turkeys, howler monkeys, and a wide variety of birds. Tikal was important from the late Pre-classic Period until the end of the Classic Era (900 AD). At its peak the city covered about 48 square miles and had a population of 55,000.

Day 3 Tikal (Yaxha)
Yaxha is about an hour past Tikal towards Belize. It is located in the Maya Biosphere Reserve, and is still considerably covered by the jungle. The ruins are particularly interesting since they are still in the early stages of restoration. Being able to see the archeologists work will give you a greater appreciation of Tikal and the work of archeologists in general. It was in this general area that the popular TV series "Suvivor" was filmed.

Day 4 Tikal/Cayo District
Today you cross over the border to Belize on a 4 hour pleasant drive by vehicle. This area has a wonderful array of landscapes from lush rainforest to rolling farmland hills with rivers and caves dotted all over. You can explore caves, try adventure sports such as biking, canoeing, horseback riding and caving, as well as visit Maya sites such as Caracol, Xunantunich, or Cahal Pech. You will stay in Blancaneaux Lodge, ensconced in a region of pine forest, with modern comforts in a beautiful rural setting. One of Francis Ford Coppola's resorts, the lodge offers attentive staff, spacious accommodations, and experienced guides. Day 5 Cayo (Xunantunich)
Today you will enjoy a full day excursion to Xunantunich - "Stone Lady”" - an impressive archaeological site with its tallest structure "El Castillo" rising 130 ft. above the jungle canopy with an impressive stucco frieze on its eastern side. From the top of the temple there is an impressive view of the Maya Mountains, the jungles of Guatemala and the entire Cayo District. The city's buildings encase three plazas and its outskirts are sprinkled with mounds covering what were once houses.

Day 7 Cayo/Belize City
The morning is at leisure and this afternoon you will be transferred from your hotel to Belize City. Enroute you will stop at the amazing Belize Zoo where you can get up close and personal with animals that are indigenous to Belize - the jaguar, the howler monkey and a very unusual type of pig. The zoo has been featured on the Discovery Channel and is popular with the locals, as well as tourists. In Belize City you will stay at the Radisson Fort George Hotel, an award-winning resort hotel facing the sea.

Day 1 Antigua
This morning you leave the USA to fly to Guatemala City. You will be met at the airport and taken by private vehicle to Antigua, about 45 minutes away. World renown for its colonial beauty, Antigua has its own personality... tourists learning Spanish, locals selling crafts, monumental and picturesque ruins of churches and monasteries remaining from the last earthquake. It is multicultural, multilingual, and a delightful place. You stay at Panza Verde was one of Antigua's first bed and breakfasts. It's restaurant is considered by many to be one of the finest in the country.

Day 2 Antigua
Today, you'll start with a half day architectural and historical tour of Antigua. You'll have an in depth, behind the scenes look at some of the many monuments. Lunch is at a popular local restaurant specializing in traditional Guatemalan food. After lunch, you'll visit a working coffee farm and museum as you learn about the history of coffee farming in Guatemala and how it produces some of the world's finest coffee.

Day 3 Iximche, Chichicastenango
You will be taken by private vehicle to Chichicastenango, a white stucco town set in the mountains, "ChiChi" is famous for its colorful, bustling handicraft market, with outstanding textiles and woodcarvings. Shamans burn copal incense on the steps of the Santo Tomás church, a centuries old ritual. En route, visit the ruins at Iximche, a small well-preserved site near Tecpan. Visit the extensive market and the church. You stay at the Hotel Santo Tomás, charming, colonial in style with modern comfort and flower filled courtyards. All rooms have fireplaces and are individually decorated by the resident proprietor.

Day 4 Chichicastenango Market/Lake Atitlan
Rise early this morning in time for the preparations for the market. Everyone gathers around the church - the members of the cofradías dressed in their traditional clothing. There is a mass and traditional music to ask for blessings for today’s market. Your guide will be with you for the entire day. This afternoon your guide takes you to Lake Atitlan where you stay at Casa Palopó, on the hillside outside of Santa Catarina Palopó. Beautifully located facing the lakes three volcanoes, this small, elegant hotel has 7 beautifully decorated rooms and a swimming pool.

Day 5 Lake Atitlan, Santiago
Joined by your guide you cross the scenic lake by boat this morning to reach Santiago Atitlán. The women here are known for their unique headdress - and you'll receive many offers for photos. This was the ancient capital of the Tzutujil Maya and it remains an important commercial center for the region. The street ascending from the dock is lined with handcraft stalls. Return to your hotel this afternoon where you may choose to relax at the hotel or join your guide in nearby Panajachel where you can explore this quaint Mayan Town on the banks of the Lake.

Day 6 Lake Atitlan/Tikal
Your morning is free (unguided) before transferring back to Guatemala City for your late afternoon flight to Flores, the gateway to Tikal. Accommodations are in secluded well appointed casitas with amenites such as a pool and restaurant serving regional dishes. It is a short walk to the lake where you can swim, canoe, kayak or fish. Local trails lead to wonderful bird watching, but watch out for the howler monkeys!.

After a leisurely breakfast you will be transferred to your next Coppola property - Blancaneaux Lodge, located in the Mountain Pine Ridge area of Belize. It is only one hour to the Belizean border, then another 2 hours to the hotel. Spread on a hillside above the Privassion River, the villas with their soaring thatch ceilings, Japanese-style tile baths, and screened porches overlooking the river have appeared in Architectural Digest. The restaurant is one of the best in the Cayo, specializing in Italian dishes and serving wines from Coppola's wineries.

Today you have a scenic drive down to the Caribbean coast to the town of Placencia, where you will stay at your 3rd Coppola property - Turtle Inn. Arriving at Turtle Inn is like walking into a motion picture set. The inn sits among the mangroves, facing the barrier reef. In addition to enjoying every water sport imaginable, you can also learn about the interesting Garifuna culture of this area - a group of people who descended from a slave shipwreck, were embraced by the native Indians, and continued to mingle and create their own culture, much of which centers around the sea.
