Day 1 Cayo District
This morning you leave the U.S.A. and arrive Belize in the afternoon. You will be met at the airport and transferred into the rainforest to your remote lodge. Enroute you will visit the unique Belize Zoo. Featured on the Discovery Channel, this funky unique zoo contains a sampling of Belizean animals in their native habitat. The animals seem as curious about you as you are about them. Stay at Pooks Hill, a beautiful, idyllic lodge truly hidden in the Belizean rainforest with a myriad of trails in their "back garden" and fantastic bird-watching possibilities. There are thatched cabanas located around a central Mayan plaza site, as well as a separate restaurant and bar area open to the surrounding rainforest views.

Day 2 Cayo District (Caracol)
Travel through the scenic Mountain Pine Ridge National Park on your way to the famous Mayan site at Caracol. Caracol was a major Maya city covering more than fifty square miles and at one time even larger than the mighty Tikal. To reach Caracol you’ll drive deep into the Chiquibal Forest Reserve, where the pine forest gives way to primary rainforest. Afterwards you will visit the Rio Frio Caves and Pools.

Day 3 Cayo District - (Cave Adventure)
Enjoy an adventurous cave/river trip to see ancient Mayan ritual sites where artifacts remain. Choose between Barton Creek where you canoe through the cave, or Actun Tunichmal for a more strenuous and adventurous trip.

Day 4 Cayo District/Transfer Deeper into the Rainforest
Transfer by private charter in a small propeller plane deep into the Belizean Rainforest to the famous lodge at Chan Chich. Spend the rest of the day exploring this vast protected area. Chan Chich is located near the lower plaza of an ancient Maya city, within a 250,000 acre private reserve. The lodge has 12 thatched-roofed cabanas, each fully screened, with two queen size beds, ceiling fan, and a wrap around veranda complete with hammocks.

Cayo District, Tikal & Guatemala City

This morning you will leave the U.S.A. on a flight to Belize City. You will be met at the airport and taken transferred to your lodge in the Cayo District. Enroute you will stop at the amazing Belize Zoo where you can get up close and personal with animals that are indigenous to Belize – the jaguar, the howler monkey and a very unusual type of pig. The zoo has been featured on the Discovery Channel. You will stay in Blancaneaux Lodge, ensconced in a region of pine forest, with modern comforts in a beautiful rural setting. One of Francis Ford Coppola's resorts, the lodge offers attentive staff, spacious accommodations, and experienced guides. Each bungalow features a soaring hand-woven thatched roof, artisan-crafted and antique colonial furnishings, and a luxurious Japanese bath with view of the jungle sky.

Day 2 Cayo District
Today you are at leisure to enjoy the facilities of the lodge or explore the area around the hotel.
The Cayo District has a wonderful array of landscapes from lush rainforest to rolling farmland hills with rivers and caves dotted all over. You can explore caves, try adventure sports such as biking, canoeing, horseback riding and caving, as well as visit Maya sites such as Caracol, Xunantunich, or Cahal Pech.

Day 3 Cayo (Xunantunich)
Today you will enjoy a full day excursion to Xunantunich – “Stone Lady” – an impressive archaeological site with its tallest structure “El Castillo” rising 130 ft. above the jungle canopy with an impressive stucco frieze on its eastern side. From the top of the temple there is an impressive view of the Maya Mountains, the jungles of Guatemala and the entire Cayo District. The city’s buildings encase three plazas and its outskirts are sprinkled with mounds covering what were once houses.

Day 4 Cayo/Tikal
Today you will be transferred by vehicle from the Cayo District to Tikal National Park in Guatemala. The pleasant drive takes about 3-4 hours, depending on border crossing times. Stay at Nitun Lodge, a rustic jungle lodge with guest houses built in rock, sand, wood and thatched with palm leaves. Most of Ni'tun's walls are built in the antique Colojché style. Some of the walls were left without the plaster so the beautiful art of wood and sticks that lies beneath can be fully appreciated. All of the houses have private bathroom with spacious hot and cold water showers. The heart of Ni’tun is certainly in the kitchen where they love to cook and prepare daily dishes… most of the recipes are their own and ingredients are fresh.

Day 5 Tikal
This morning you have a guided tour of Tikal National Park, the "New York City" of Mundo Maya (the Mayan World). The tour includes transfers, lunch, and entrance fees. Tikal has been a national park for more than 20 years. In addition to magnificent ruins, there's abundant wildlife such as peccaries, oscillated turkeys, howler monkeys, and a wide variety of birds. Tikal was important from the late Pre-classic Period until the end of the Classic Era (900 AD). At its peak the city covered about 48 square miles and had a population of 55,000.

Day 6 Tikal (Yaxha)
Yaxha is about an hour past Tikal towards Belize. It is located in the Maya Biosphere Reserve, and is still considerably covered by the jungle. The ruins are particularly interesting since they are still in the early stages of restoration. Being able to see the archeologists work will give you a greater appreciation of Tikal and the work of archeologists in general. It was in this general area that the popular TV series "Survivor" was filmed.

Today you will be transferred to Flores Airport, about 30 minutes from Tikal National Park. There you will board a short flight to Guatemala City, where you will be met and taken for a tour of the city that will include the historical center, the Main Plaza, and the Central Market which offers textiles and crafts from throughout the country. You will stay in the 5 star Westin Camino Real, in the lively Zona Viva, near embassy row, with lots of options for dining and nightlife.

You depart the U.S.A. on a flight to Belize City. You will be met at the airport and driven several hours on a scenic drive down to the Caribbean coast to the town of Placencia, where you will stay at your 1st Coppola property - Turtle Inn. (Or you may choose to take a short connecting flight to the local airport of Placencia). Arriving at Turtle Inn is like walking into a motion picture set. The inn sits among the mangroves, facing the barrier reef. In addition to enjoying every water sport imaginable, you can also learn about the interesting Garifuna culture of this area - a group of people who descended from a slave shipwreck, were embraced by the native Indians, and continued to mingle and create their own culture, much of which centers around the sea. Day 2 Placencia
You are at leisure to enjoy the many water-based activities of your resort. Enjoy some of the greatest snorkeling and diving in the world.

Day 3 Placencia
After a leisurely breakfast you will be transferred to your next Coppola property – Blancaneaux Lodge, located in the Mountain Pine Ridge area of Belize, several hours away by car. Spread on a hillside above the Privassion River, the villas with their soaring thatch ceilings, Japanese-style tile baths, and screened porches overlooking the river have appeared in Architectural Digest. The restaurant is one of the best in the Cayo, specializing in Italian dishes and serving wines from Coppola's wineries.

Today you are free to enjoy the facilities of the hotel. You can choose to dive off waterfalls, ride horses, or relax in a hammock. Or, if you prefer we can arrange a full day excursion to one of the nearby magnificent Mayan ruins, such as Caracol or Xunatunich.

Day 6 Cayo/Flores
This morning you transfer by car across the border from Belize to Guatemala. The pleasant scenic drive takes about 3 hours, depending upon border crossing time. You will be taken to the delightful town of Flores, gateway to Tikal National Park. You will stay at La Lancha, Francis Ford Coppola's newest property, a beautiful lodge overlooking Lake Peten Itza. Accommodations are in secluded well appointed casitas with amenites such as a pool and restaurant serving regional dishes. It is a short walk to the lake where you can swim, canoe, kayak or fish. Local trails lead to wonderful bird watching, but watch out for the howler monkeys!

Today you will take a short flight from Flores to Guatemala City and then connect for your flight back to the U.S.A. If your flight connection in Guatemala is more than several hours, we can arrange to have a guide meet you at the airport for a 2 or 3 hour city tour of Guatemala's capital city. The tour will cover the historical center of the city, the Main Plaza and the Metropolitan Cathedral. A brief stop will be made at Central Market which offers textiles and crafts from throughout the country - a great place to catch up on last minute shopping!
